How I used the wisdom of Nature to find and clarify my calling.
The upheaval we are facing right now is both a provocation and an invitation.
It calls for creative disruption to push systems change through balls-out (look it up - not what you’re thinking) WILD IMAGINATION rather than incremental shifts or irrational destruction.
Art: my own. Balls Out, 2020
And creative disruption is exactly what we need right now when the urgency is palpable but slowing down to re-imagine what’s possible is paramount.
Clearly, disruption can be devastating when ordered by those with an utter disregard for all who/that will be deeply impacted.
Exhibit A: every damn day.
BUT when motivated by a deep desire to PROTECT rather than destroy, disruption can be transformative beyond measure.
When the pandemic hit, things were bleak.
Remember? The confusion. The uncertainty. The isolation. The unendingness. (Deja vu.)
Some funneled their creative energy/boredom/anxiety into baking bread or growing a garden or remodeling a kitchen.
Me?
I had no oven or yard or need for a new countertop in the studio apartment in Buenos Aires where my husband and I were stuck for the duration.
So, I leveraged my cabin fever to help women on the other side of the world who were facing the most debilitating grief of their lives.
Lost spouses/partners or parents.
Lost work/business/options.
Being the sole breadwinner in their extended family.
AND being a woman over 50 with limited education.
I love a challenge.
Also: I was in over my head.
These women desperately needed to find a way to function and somehow put food on the table.
I desperately needed to do things DIFFERENTLY in order to help them.
There was no time for the pace of weekly session. (They needed momentum).
They had NO MONEY. (This was all pro bono work.)
They had limited access to technology.
Most spoke English as a second language.
I had to help each one GET OUT OF BED and get on her feet to move forward with nothing more than she already had.
When we stop trying to fit our work into expected frameworks, we are free.
It takes courage to step back, stop controlling, and embrace emergence, especially for those who embrace their role as an "expert".
But as soon as I stopped coaching and started COMPANIONING - being there in the most basic way - everything flowed.
Every single woman revived herself enough to get up, take a shower, eat a meal, prepare one for her family, and go outside for some fresh air.
Over a period of 30 days, each one created and launched her first digital course.
WIthin three months, EVERY ONE of the first 88 women earned enough income from home to support her family.
Most important of all, they CAME ALIVE when they had lost all hope.
They grinned. They glowed. They were beyond grateful.
If you are worrying about your own (or our collective) future, and still thinking within the normal limits of what is possible, remember:
There’s another way.
It’s all around us.
I took cues from Nature and the principles of regeneration.
You can, too.
Here’s the process Nature inspired for me:
*listen deeply
*lighten heaviness
*liberate flow
*leverage energy
*localize healing

In what ways might my simple process (above) guide you to clarify and simplify?
WHAT WOULD YOU DO FIRST to strip away the unnecessary and become wholly and wondrously restorative in all you do?
How are you letting Nature and your own wild imagination guide you during this era of emergence?
Thank you for being open to recognizing Nature as a source of infinite inspiration.
