A Warm Welcome to our Rotary Friends!

The New Global Student is a powerful tool for promoting the good work that is being done by Rotary International in general and the Rotary Youth Exchange program in particular.

Tom and his three siblings were RYE students back in the seventies (check out this article about them in The Oregonian from 1979) and his oldest brother married the RYE student from Japan who had lived with their family!  Our three oldest daughters are second generation Rotary Youth Exchange students (thanks, District 5100!) and no matter where we go, we end up meeting current or former RYE students from around the world.

1990:  Our second daughter, Tara, wearing her aunt's Rotary Exchange t-shirt from South Africa. Twelve years later, she went on her own exchange in Brazil.

The book describes the Rotary Youth Exchange as the very best option for any family interested in sending their son or daughter abroad on exchange during or right after high school, and there's an entire chapter dedicated to tips for parents, stories from rebounders, and important information about the benefits and challenges of the exchange experience from Dr. Dennis White.

You can read a little teaser about the book on Rotary's website here

Maya with John Kenny, Rotary International president, at the Central States Rotary Youth Exchange Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan July 9th-11th. Maya was the guest speaker on the first night of the conference--a great crowd of 1500 Rotarians, parents and exchange students!

The book is a great resource for all families with kids in high school, but it's especially valuable to those considering going on exchange.  We invite you to purchase a copy of the book and pass it along to a prospective RYE student, donate it to the guidance counseling office at your local high school, or give it to a youth-oriented non-profit in your community.  Better yet, buy copies in bulk and distribute them to students and parents who could benefit from the information.  It's a great way to be of service while spreading the word about Rotary Youth Exchange!

Maya was unable to make the trip to Chicago in February to attend the North American Youth Exchange Network convention, but she prepared a video presentation which was shown to all attendees. Please feel free to use this video for any promotional purposes!
