A Heartfelt Message from Maya

Dear Student,

Although The New Global Student is packed with great tips and stories that you're sure to find inspiring, the book is really written for parents. I mean, let's face it: it doesn't take much to talk students into skipping the SAT or going abroad, but parents take a lot more convincing.

That's where I come in. See, after your parents have read the book, they'll be much more likely to consider letting you finish high school early, go off on an exchange, slide into university via early college courses, take a gap year, or go on an independent study abroad.
Here's what you can do to move things along:
Make sure your parents know that the most important thing they can do for your education is read The New Global Student. Send them a message that says:
Dear Mom/Dad,
I heard about this book that talks about a new way to prepare for college and get a global education. It sounds like it could save us a lot of money! Could you go to www.NewGlobalStudent.com and order it? It's only $14.95.
Love,
Xxxxxx
While they're on the site, they'll learn about some great resources for parents.
When the book shows up, they will be totally primed for it. Grab it first if you can and read it yourself. Then, leave it in places where they can't ignore it: on a nightstand, on the coffee table, in the bathroom, whatever.
Look for ways to insert ideas from the book into your conversations: "Well, I read in The New Global Student that it's actually a smart move to..." Or "Did you read the story about the student who...?" They'll be impressed that you're reading a book about ways to get a great education without spending a fortune!

In the meantime, I invite you to:

Read the blog.
You'll learn about all kinds of options and meet students who are figuring out cool ways to get a kick-ass education on their own terms and time lines.
Join the New Globals group on Facebook.
It's for anyone who has gone abroad on a family sabbatical, an exchange, a gap year, or to study abroad during college--or is interested in doing so. You'll connect with bold schoolers and get regular (but not annoying) updates about the book and related events.
Drop by the Student Lounge regularly.
I love the students I've profiled in my book, and as they send me updates, I'll post them here so you can get an idea of the kinds of things they're doing.

I know what it's like to want to do things differently but not have the support to make other choices, so I'm totally committed to helping you move forward by making sure you and your parents are on the same page.

And remember, it doesn't have to cost a fortune! Many of the students profiled were able to go abroad for an entire year for less than $2,000.

The most important thing for you to remember is that there's a great big smorgasbord of educational opportunities out there. Don't ever feel that you are trapped on a particular path, and don't settle for dull because POW is definitely available to you--and often for far less money than you'd imagine.

If you're hungry for more freedom, discovery and fun in your education, this is the mother lode.

Good luck on your mission to convince your parents to get the book! It might just change your life.
Hugs & Happy Trails,

Maya
