Thinking of taking your family on a sabbatical abroad?

Our three youngest daughters making chapatis in our host's kitchen in India.

Congratulations!  Thinking about it is the first step toward making it happen.

If you're considering spending time in another country with your family--whether it's for a month or a year or even longer--you won't want to miss the section in my book called the Ten Commandments for Families Considering A Sabbatical or Move Abroad.

Maybe you want to hear a story of how a sabbatical opened new doors for a family.  In the book, I share the story of how my family's three-month trip to India and Nepal--with four daughters, ages 7, 8, 10 and 11--changed EVERYTHING for us.

Or maybe you're ready to make a bigger leap and move abroad.  I've got plenty of tips to share on that as well since my family sold everything back in 2005 when our four daughters were teenagers(!) and left our suburban American lifestyle in order to move abroad--first to Mexico, and then to Argentina.

Craving an adventure?  In my book, you'll meet the Lesher family.  They sold everything they owned and took off on a family adventure on a sailboat!  They'd never been anywhere on a sailboat as a family before leaving on their trip--but they figured things out.  In fact, they spent the next four and a half years sailing around the Caribbean and loving every minute of it!  They homeschooled their two kids the entire time and found wonderful ways to connect with other "kid boats" in order to share activities with other cruising families. There are all kinds of adventures in store for those who consider a sabbatical or move abroad with the family!

The girls and I take a break while trekking in Nepal.

And here's something interesting:  we actually moved abroad as part of a plan to save thousands of dollars for our daughters' college expenses!  How'd that turn out?  Well, you can read the updates on our daughters here if you like, and you might be surprised to learn that we managed to save ourselves a couple hundred thousand dollars along the way--despite making only mid-five-figures a year COMBINED!

Whether you're considering traveling or moving abroad with a baby in tow (our first two daughters were born in northern rural Japan when my husband and I were English teachers there) or pondering the possibilities of yanking your teenagers out of high school, I know you'll appreciate the valuable tips, entertaining stories, and especially the here's-the-way-it-really-was tales from my daughters themselves.  Oh, and you'll love my formerly-cranky husband's take on how his life changed (and the thousands of dollars we saved!) once we busted out of the 'burbs!

I hope you'll consider buying a copy of the book so that you can learn more about the wonderful possibilities for you and your family.  Spending time abroad is one of the greatest gifts you can give your kids--and wait until you hear about how it enhances your student's brain AND prospects for success in the 21st-century global economy!

I'd be happy to meet you on my book tour and answer your questions or learn more about your ideas.  Send me a message anytime at Maya@MayaFrost.com or feel free to connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn. I invite you to visit my New Globals blog as well or head on over to my mindfulness blog where I talk about our experience living on a farm in rural Uruguay.

Hugs and Happy Trails!
