I'm not an educator, or a parent, but I am a young woman for whom education has been a passionate subject. As a student, I was lucky enough and determined enough to use my "gifted" status to re-shape my curriculum to best suit me. I negotiated arrangements with nearly every teacher to set up either an enriched or accelerated version of their class, and graduated high school a year early.

But my husband, though equally intelligent, fell through the cracks, never offered any of the opportunities I was - even though we went to the same school. It pains me deeply how poorly our school systems suit most students, and how far behind the pace of the world they've fallen.

I wish that we could turn the schools on their heads. I am so impatient with incremental changes, and the blinkered vision that enforces them.
